A little over one mile across the fields is the lovely town of Framlingham – selected by Country Life Magazine as the best small market town in the south of England. It has an historic church, a fine mediaeval castle, and many excellent pubs and restaurants, plus hassle-free parking. It is a good centre for exploring the area, where the local scenery is one of pretty painted thatched cottages in an undulating landscape.

Easy cycle routes and footpaths from the lane take in Suffolk’s gentle, well-tended countryside.

Woodbridge is another attractive town nearby, with its picturesque river views, and a rare tide mill. Minsmere bird reserve, Snape Maltings - which is renowned for its varied concerts - and Suffolk’s quaint seaside towns like Aldeburgh are all within easy reach along roads with little traffic.

Uncrowded sandy beaches can be found at Walberswick, and at Southwold where there is
a re-built pier with some of Tim Hunkin’s amusing machines to be tried. Good country pubs in picture-postcard villages abound, so there is much to see and do. When you get back to the cottage, you will find it welcoming and comfortable, with all you need for a memorable stay.
